Lo2: Map identifying Photoshoot locations in Sheffield

Sheffield Centre:

Lo2: Risk Assessment for Photoshoot

Lo2: Risk Assessment for office

Lo2: Legal and Ethical Considerations

  • Violence
  • Drugs
  • Language
  • Sexism
  • Racism
  • Sex/Nudity
  • Extreme acts of religious viewpoints

My magazine might fall under this act because the media scrutinises fashion photography and how the individual is portrayed. This issue would fall under the nudity part of the act because fashion can often be revealing and the images therefore the models must be photographed in a way that is not deemed revealing or explicit enough to cause offence.
-As fashion can be extreme the content of the images must not appear to be violent or offensive, they must portray the clothing along side the model in an appropriate manor.
-If interviewing bloggers or any person exclusive to the magazine, i will not print any language which is deemed to be inappropriate for the readers of any age as this will be scrutinised under the obscene publications act.
-Because my magazine is fashion, Violence and Drugs will not be an issue as entities of this nature will not be relevant to any of the content with in my magazine.
-The way in which the models are portrayed through the images will not cause offence that may come under sexism or racism, this also applies to the articles throughout my magazine. Both male and female models will be used throughout therefore i shall ensure that my models are clothed appropriately to not be scrutinised by the act.

libel -  To publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others. Libel is the written or broadcast form of defamation, distinguished from slander which is oral defamation. It is a tort (civil wrong) making the person or entity (like a newspaper, magazine or political organisation) open to a lawsuit for damages by the person who can prove the statement about him/her was a lie. Publication need only be to one person, but it must be a statement which claims to be fact, and is not clearly identified as an opinion. While it is sometimes said that the person making the libellous statement must have been intentional and malicious, actually it need only be obvious that the statement would do harm and is untrue.

To avoid being sued i will not print something that is deemed to be untrue about anyone who is deemed to be a reasonable adult that could take offence to what i have printed

Copyright:

  • As a magazine often uses images taken by professional or other photographers copyright is a big issue
  • Print an image that you haven't obtained rights to and the owner can claim damages.
  • Print an image and miscredit it and the same can happen.
  • Print an image which shows copyright material without permission and the owner of the subject can claim damages.
I will address copyright issues by printing all the rights to every image i use, have complete permission on paper for the use of all the content in my magazine ensuring it is credited efficiently. This will include - use of images - use of models - use of others words/images - use of brand names.

Law Of Content:

Under the contempt of court act 1981 it is a criminal contempt of court to publish anything which creates a real risk that the course of justice in proceedings may be seriously impaired.

Lo1: Basic Production Plan Draft

Lo1: Audience Profile

TA Member:

Serena Baker
As a 19 year old girl from Yorkshire, i currently attend Hallam Uni studying Law and English at a higher education standard. As i have been in further education for a year now i have recently got a part time job which on average i earn £60 a week on top of my bursary which i can spend at my own leisure. With this money i buy my monthly mags such as Company and Elle because i like to keep up to date with fashion and have good style even tough when i shop its on a low budget. I like to read these magazines because they have great information on where the best style is for the cheapest price and they usually include exclusive offers for shops such as Urban Outfitters and Top Shop which are some of my favourite shops, but they are just too expensive to shop there regularly. I also like these magazine as they feature celebrities that i idolise and offer exclusive behind the scenes footage of their lives and they jobs. for example when Cara Delevign did the shoot for TopShop A/W14,  i could see some of the pictures which weren't released with the main brand. My family fall typically in the ABC1 demographic because my family and i have lived in Dore, Sheffield all of my life and my siblings and i attended well established schools from nursery through to secondary where i achieved my Alevel grades of As and A*s. In my free time i attend as many shows are release events i can ranging from Leeds to London as this is my favourite hobby, although i have no interest of taking this hobby into a profession, i still a major love of mine.

Lo1: Draft Ideas of Possible Articles

In my magazine i could possibly include:

  • Value For Money
  • The High Street Shopper
  • Skincare products that work
  • New Lines Best Looks
  • Bloggers
  • Do's & Don'ts
  • Shoes - Ready to Wear
My 3 Main Article:
  • The High Street Shopper
In this article i will include images of runway fashion which is too expensive or too 'out there' for the general reader! Therefore i shall then find clothing which is available at reasonable prices and maybe not as extravagant from the standard high street shops such River Island, Top Shop, Zara etc. This will feature the price, the clothes, the approved items and maybe the 'What the..?!' Items form the stores and the new lines.

  • Blogger
Obviously this title is boring, but its just an idea so fir each different blogger who features i will have a different title which is relevant to their style and their personality. The article will have short interviews and their opinions on the current fashion and the popular looks of the time. The images used will be taken off them, and of their style off their blog which will be on polaroid photography paper which will be a contestant theme through out this reoccurring article in my magazine.

  • Ready to Wear
This article will be SHOES :) and what shoes from where are the best choices for the season, the style and the weather!! This is a big thing in England because the weather in England is not reliable and Swede is not practical in the winter months. Therefore this section of my magazine will be informative and fun for my reader.

Lo1: Synopsis Of My Magazine

Name: British Apparel
My magazine is basic, fashion! I shall have fun images and articles of featuring style and fashion through out and include events that will also relate to this audience such as festivals, fashion shows, music concerts etc. The colours used will be consistant and aesthetically complimenting to the magazine. The magazine has to be a minimum of 12 pages and goes up in fours as this is how the magazine will be printed and shall be released on a monthly basis however  i shall only be creating one issue to meet my criteria.

Lo1: Appropriate software to create my product

The software i will need to create my magazine:

  • InDesign
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Bridge
  • Word
  • Apple mac

The function of these products:

  • Adobe InDesign will be the main creator of my magazine, all the layout and information will be arranged in this software.
  • Photoshop will be used to edit all my images and export them to the highest quality.
  • Illustrator will be used for similar reasons as Photoshop however i can use illustrator to create my own animations which can feature on my pages throughout.
  • Bridge is an image batch processor which will sort out my images quickly and efficiently.
  • Word will be used to write up the content of articles.
  • Apple Mac is the home of my magazine where all this software is on and where the production of my magazine will occur.

Difficulty of use:

  • InDesign is quite difficult to use however i have experience of this software in the previous year therefore i will get to grips with this quickly.
  • Photoshop is not difficult to use for me as i have lots of experience with this, however more techniques can be learnt as i go along.
  • Illustrator is horrible, i cant use this therefore i think it is very difficult!! However i will try my best to use it through out the production of my magazine and learn the basic uses.
  • Bridge is easy and productive so i shall have no issues with this.
  • Word is EASY :)
  • Apple Mac is easy also, i have used the majority of these products for a substantial amount of time now and have confidence in the production of the magazine.
